According to the BBC, Facebook took part in a psychological study, together with Cornell University and the University of California at San Francisco, the purpose of which was to find out if there was any experimental evidence that emotional states can be transferred to others by emotional contagion.

The agency had been sending unsolicited telemarketing messages to Singapore phone numbers already registered with the Do Not Call ("DNC") Registry.

Does not show up on published site. 26/5/2014 21 May 2014Dharma SadasivanThe Personal Data Protection Commission ("PDPC") has confirmed that it is adopting "the practical rule of thumb that a minor who is at least 13 years of age would typically have sufficient understanding to be able to consent on his own behalf" (paragraph 8.6, Advisory Guidelines on the PDPA for Selected Topics - Data Activities Relating to Minors).

Does not show up on published site. 16/5/2014 11 April 2014Dharma SadasivanConsumers can register their phone numbers on the Do Not Call ("DNC") registry if they don't want to receive telemarketing calls, text messages or, more rarely, faxes. Notwithstanding such registration, organisations can still conduct telemarketing to DNC-registered phone numbers if they first obtain "clear and unambiguous consent".

Does not show up on published site. 11/4/2014 10 April 2014Dharma SadasivanAs the Do Not Call ("DNC") Registry provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA") come into force, many business-to-consumer marketing departments are faced with the problem of ensuring that existing customer telemarketing databases are DNC-compliant. In order to contact consumers who have registered with the DNC Registry via telemarketing, businesses must obtain "clear and unambiguous consent".
